Phytase - Feed Ingredient
Phytase is a feed enzyme that catalyzes the breakdown of phytic acid (also known as phytate), a form of phosphorus stored in plant seeds and grains. In its natural form, phytic acid is largely indigestible to non-ruminant animals, including horses, and can bind essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc, reducing their bioavailability. Phytase is typically produced through microbial fermentation and is stabilized for use in feed applications.
In equine nutrition, Phytase is included as a digestive enzyme supplement to improve the release and absorption of phosphorus and other bound minerals from plant-based feed ingredients. By enhancing mineral availability, it supports skeletal health, metabolic function, and reduces the need for inorganic phosphorus supplementation.
The following equine feeds, supplements and products contain Phytase as an ingredient.
