Sodium Citrate - Feed Ingredient

Sodium citrate is the sodium salt of citric acid, commonly used in food and feed applications as a buffering agent, emulsifier, and preservative. It appears as a white, crystalline powder that is highly soluble in water and has a mildly saline, slightly tart flavor.

In equine feed and supplement formulations, sodium citrate is primarily used for its functional properties. It acts as a pH buffer, helping to stabilize the acidity of liquid or gel-based products, and may also enhance the solubility and stability of certain minerals and vitamins.
