Soybean Oil - Feed Ingredient

Soybean oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the soybean (Glycine max). It is widely used as an energy-dense feed ingredient in livestock and equine nutrition due to its high fat content and digestibility. It primarily consists of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, including linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3), which are essential for animal health.

Soybean oil is produced through mechanical pressing or solvent extraction from whole soybeans. The extracted oil is then refined to remove impurities, making it suitable for feed applications. It is commonly added to rations to increase calorie density, enhance coat condition, and improve overall palatability of feeds.

In horses, soybean oil serves as an efficient energy source, providing more than twice the energy per gram compared to carbohydrates.
