Whole Wheat Plant - Feed Ingredient

The term “whole wheat plant” typically refers to the entire above-ground portion of the wheat plant (Triticum aestivum), including the grain, stalks, leaves, and in some cases the chaff or husks. When used in animal feed, it is often harvested and processed as whole crop wheat silage or ground forage.

As a feed ingredient for horses, the whole wheat plant provides a combination of structural fiber from the stems and leaves, and non-structural carbohydrates (primarily starch) from the grain and leaves.
