Topic:Mule

Mules arena distinct equine species with unique physiological and behavioral characteristics. Horses, belonging to the species Equus ferus caballus, are domesticated animals known for their speed, strength, and versatility in various roles, including riding, racing, and work. Mules, on the other hand, are hybrid animals resulting from the crossbreeding of a male donkey (jack) and a female horse (mare). They inherit traits from both parents, often exhibiting the endurance and hardiness of donkeys combined with the size and strength of horses. Mules are typically sterile due to their hybrid nature, possessing 63 chromosomes, an intermediate number between horses and donkeys. This page compiles peer-reviewed research studies and scholarly articles that explore the genetic, anatomical, and behavioral differences between mules and horses, as well as the mule's role in agriculture, transportation, and recreation.

Assessing the impact of USER-treatment on hyRAD capture applied to ancient DNA.
Molecular ecology resources    April 29, 2022   Volume 22, Issue 6 2262-2274 doi: 10.1111/1755-0998.13619
Suchan T, Chauvey L, Poullet M, Tonasso-Calvière L, Schiavinato S, Clavel P, Clavel B, Lepetz S, Seguin-Orlando A, Orlando L.Ancient DNA preservation in subfossil specimens provides a unique opportunity to retrieve genetic information from the past. As ancient DNA extracts are generally dominated by molecules originating from environmental microbes, capture techniques are often used to economically retrieve orthologous sequence data at the population scale. Post-mortem DNA damage, especially the deamination of cytosine residues into uracils, also considerably inflates sequence error rates unless ancient DNA extracts are treated with the USER enzymatic mix prior to library construction. While both approaches have rec...

Frequency and factors associated of potential zoonotic pathogens (Borrelia spp., Rickettsia spp., Leishmania spp., and Anaplasma phagocytophilum) in equids in the state of Bahia, Brazil.
Parasites & vectors    May 22, 2021   Volume 14, Issue 1 275 doi: 10.1186/s13071-021-04777-4
Costa SCL, de Souza Freitas J, Carvalho FS, Pereira MJS, Cordeiro MD, da Fonseca AH, Gomes Jusi MM, Machado RZ, Munhoz AD.Currently, various zoonotic diseases are classified as emerging or reemerging. Because equids have a direct relationship with various vectors, they are possibly more frequently exposed to zoonotic agents than are humans. The undeniable importance of diseases such as human granulocytic anaplasmosis, spotted fever, and leishmaniasis for both public and animal health, as well as the possibility of equids acting as sources, reservoirs, or even sentinels for these pathogens, justifies the detection of their frequency and factors associated with infection in equids from northeastern Brazil. Methods:...
