Bifidobacterium thermophilum is a species of beneficial, gram-positive, anaerobic bacteria commonly classified as a probiotic. It is characterized by its ability to survive in warm environments and its role in maintaining microbial balance. As a probiotic, it is included in animal nutrition to support a healthy gut flora.

In equine products, Bifidobacterium thermophilum is used as a direct-fed microbial additive in feed or supplements. It is intended to support hindgut microbial populations, particularly during periods of stress, dietary changes, or antibiotic use that can disrupt normal gut flora.
