A 19-year-old thoroughbred mare was referred to Oakhill Veterinary Centre for the surgical removal of a large, left-sided thyroid gland measuring 26cm in diameter. Pre-operative considerations, the hemithyroidectomy surgical technique as well as the intra- and post-operative complications encountered, are discussed.
